Coaching is a fantastic way to contribute to the community as it’s all about growing ‘people’ as well as growing ‘players’.

If you are new to the world of coaching and would like some support to get started, contact your Zone's coach lead to get some more information about the clubs and centres in your area.

Support & Resources

Netball New Zealand provide both online and practical coach support and resources.

The online support is located on our new Sport Tutor - Online Learning which is being updated and added to all the time.

Practical coaching workshops are held across the country throughout the year. You can choose to complete a series of workshops and work towards your Foundation or Community Coach Award, or you can just pick and choose any of the workshops from the Foundation or Community Coach area that are of interest to you.

If you want to enter the Performance Coach area you will need to complete the Community Coach Award Level 1 and 2. For more information on this area get in touch with your Zone’s Performance Manager.

Coach Developers

There is a network of Coach Developers around the country who can support coaches in the following areas:

  1. Facilitation of coaching workshops
  2. Coach support, observation and feedback at trainings and games

Coach Developers are supported and professionally developed by Netball New Zealand and their Zone. If you would like to know more about the Coach Developer role, please get in touch with the Coach Lead in your Zone.


Foundation Coach – Woolworths futureFERNS

Coach development focuses on fundamental movement and basic Netball skills. The activities and games encourage maximum participation and enjoyment.

Community Coach

The Community Coach Award (CCA) is for the development coach working with athletes from 12 – 18 years. It includes modules that provide knowledge and skills to develop players at the community level, using a player-centred approach.

The Performance Coach Qualification (PCQ) is for coaches working with representative athletes. It includes advanced modules, workshop tasks, a portfolio and observations over three years.

Community Coaching Strategy 2026–2029

Netball New Zealand has launched the Community Coaching Strategy 2026–2029, setting a clear and practical direction for supporting coaches across community netball in Aotearoa.

Coaches play a vital role in creating positive experiences for players, whānau and communities. This strategy focuses on strengthening support, creating clearer development pathways and helping ensure community netball remains sustainable, enjoyable and strong into the future.
