As a teenaged shooter at the Pulse, Amelia Walmsley quickly answered the varied challenges of top-flight netball when delivering a captivating breakout season in 2023, resulting in her inaugural inclusion in the Siver Ferns squad, in 2023/24.
Unexpectedly thrust into the starter’s role as the Pulse’s main shooter at the start of the 2023 season, the 1.92m Walmsley grabbed her opportunity with both hands, coming along in leaps and bounds to quickly stamp her mark at the elite level.
Playing for the Pulse straight out of Howick College in 2022, the rangy Walmsley has continued to push her credentials to new levels ever since. A player with a heap of potential, the long-limbed shooter has improved her footwork and handling skills while height and accuracy under the hoop make her a ready target, with the added value of her rebounding ability. Improved strength and conditioning have allowed the tall shooter to hold her own in the physical battles that unfold in the circle, while the mental component, where her calm demeanour is evident, has played an equally important role.
In a career highlight, Walmsley was named captain of the NZ U21 team to contest the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar.
