Six teams will vie for the title of Beko Netball League champions when the season gets underway on Saturday 25 March.
New in 2017 is the introduction of a sixth team from Netball Northern. The team will be run in partnership with Netball Northern and the Northern Stars and brings the league into alignment with the ANZ Premiership.
Featuring 31 games run over 13 weekends, culminating in a Grand Final, the teams will play a double round robin, with 10 matches to be televised on SKY Sport NZ and 21 standalone games.
Now in its second year, the Beko Netball League is fundamental to strengthening Netball New Zealand’s (NNZ) performance pathway, the development of talent, and competitiveness of NNZ’s elite teams.
Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennie Wyllie says she is looking forward to the league getting underway in its second year.
“We were delighted with the success of the Beko Netball League last year; the support we received from the Netball community, partners and fans was tremendous,” Wyllie said.
“The inaugural league provided many highlights, and not just on the court, including Netball South winning the fan-voted Moment of the Year at the NZ Netball Awards, and who could forget Sheridan Bignall’s speech at the Grand Final presentation.
“It is moments like these that make the Beko Netball League what is – a wonderful opportunity to showcase the next generation of talent.”
