With the prospect of higher honours providing the impetus, teenaged Central Manawa goal attack Sarah Guiney has done her cause no harm during the opening rounds of the Synergy Hair Netball League (NNL).

After securing a draw in Game 1, Waikato Bay of Plenty were on the hunt for a win. The team had spent the week developing their structures and combinations and continued to build their connections through court.
Spending more hours in her car than on the netball court, perseverance has paid off handsomely for Central Manawa midcourter Tyra-Jade (TJ) Alexander and with it a breakthrough season in the Synergy Hair Netball League (NNL).

The pre-season for the WBOP SHNL team has been intense and exciting, with the squad having a great team building camp earlier in the year where they were able to set expectations and gather a thorough understanding of what the season ahead looks like.
Newcomer Martina Salmon got more than she bargained for when making her debut for Central Manawa in the Synergy Hair Netball League and is now primed for a repeat dose in Round 2.
MAGIC IN THE MAKING PURPOSE
- Pathways ID and create a list for NNZ National Development Camp (NDC) with appropriate players to represent our zone
- To give an opportunity to view Year 13 players that have potential to trial for SHNL
- To create a depth chart with accurate information on players in our pathway
- To develop and grow the depth and breadth of talent in our zone
MAGIC IN THE MAKING PROCESS
- Centre Pathways Spotter Identify and profile players, provide list to Zone Player Pathway Lead (PPL)
Development by Centres running their own Representative programs and Player Development Programs (PDP) - PPL and Zone Pathway spotters attend various tournaments to identify and profile players
- 70 players invited to a Waibop Magic in the Making (MIM) Development session (1 of 2 offered at volunteer centres) plus 5 reserves at each
- Two Magic in the Making (MIM) Development sessions held with athlete education, fitness testing, specialist coaching and game play offered.
- Up to 30 players invited to MIM Advance camp for further athlete education, fitness testing, specialist coaching and fast five game play.
- Nominations sent into NNZ for National Development Camp (NDC) and/or players invited to SHNL trainings/trials
Player retention has provided a healthy foundation for defending champions Central Manawa to launch their 2024 Synergy Hair Netball League (NNL) campaign starting with their season-opener against the Comets in Auckland on Sunday.
