Netball Central Zone has appointed experienced project director Libby Carson to the role of interim Chief Executive as the search gets underway for a permanent replacement for Chris Hooper, who resigned last week for personal reasons.

Entries are now open for the New World Netball Volunteer Awards 2013 which are designed to recognise the efforts volunteers make in their various Netball Centres throughout New Zealand. New World has partnered with Netball New Zealand again to celebrate the success of the most dedicated netball volunteers by awarding them with national honours. Without the hard work of hundreds of volunteers at Zones, centres and clubs, Netball in New Zealand would not be the success it is today.

Netball Central Zone CEO Chris Hooper will be leaving the organisation on 30 August, after resigning from his position for personal reasons.

The Netball Central Under 23 team kicked off their campaign with a round robin tournament in Timaru. These games are the first two pool matches prior to the Under 19 & 23 Age Group Championships 15th-18th July in Wellington.

On behalf of the Netball Central Zone Board, I would like welcome the teams and volunteers to the 2013 Under 19/23 National Age Group Championships.

Congratulations to the Haier Pulse who rallied in the deep south to take a well deserved victory over the Southern Steel to finish a season best 5th place.

Haier Pulse Head Coach Robyn Broughton and CEO Chris Hooper have paid tribute to captain Katrina Grant, who was named Sports Personality of the Year at last night’s Dominion Post Wellington Sports Awards.

Haier Pulse captain Katrina Grant can’t wait for Monday night’s all-or-nothing return match with the Canterbury Tactix, after enjoying a well-earned rest with no game last weekend. She and her team had the luxury of being able to reflect on a job well done, following their outstanding 62-45 victory at Christchurch’s CBS Arena, while their opponents endured yet more misery, going down 79-62 to the Steel in Dunedin.
